Well, here goes a 2nd attempt.
I wrote the first post and Mike hit a bump and it disappeared from my screen. The trials of working on a laptop on the road. :(
We left Wendover, UT this morning at 8:30 a.m. Wendover is right near the Bonneville Speedway where they do speed tests and experimental things. It really is a very FLAT salt plain. In the winter, it is a lake but in the summer all the water evaporates and it turns into a salt flat that they run things on. The setting of the movie, "The World's Fastest Indian" was set here. I haven't seen the movie, but it is on my netflix queue and Mike has seen it and says it is good. We crossed the Great Salt Lake Basin & Desert which is where all the water flows in, but doesn't go out. It is dry, flat and nothing lives there! We saw the southern shore of the Great Salt Lake where we saw lots of seagulls and a mosque like temple called the SaltAir. It is kind of weird. We took Tim there once, and Kylie too but she was very young and probably doesn't remember it. It was not that great.
Finally we got to Salt Lake City where I wanted to stop and show Abby the Mormon Temple, but we couldn't find it so kept on going. Even so, it was green, pretty and is set right at the foot of the mountains. We passed Park City, site of the Olympic Winter Games and we could see the ski jump venue sans snow. I do not have the nerve to do ski jumping, but I think it would be as close to flying as you could come. Winding through the mountains it was green, pretty and even the cat came out to view the sights. There was some snow on the high peaks but overall very pretty setting.
That was before we hit the sinkhole of Wyoming, which in my opinion, was not very pretty but then again we are not seeing much on I-80. We did cross the Continental Divide and noted that with Abby. It is green, but high desert and no, there are no wild mustangs running free along the highway. So much for the movie, Flicka - or at least in this region of the state. We have seen trains - quite a few in fact. As I write this, we are heading in to Rawlins, WY and I see a sign for the "Frontier Prison National Historic Place" - idk what it is about, but I'm assuming it is where they kept frontier prisoners. lol
Well, I guess that is all the excitement I have right now. I wanted Laurinda and Camber to know that I came all the way through Utah and Nevada and did not see any large, icky mormon crickets. I was prepared, but not too disappointed. I am sure I will see enough other bugs to satisfy any entomologist.
Take care and keep checking as the travel adventures continue!
